Kyle Rayner first appeared in Green Lantern Vol. 3 #48 (January 1994) and eventually became a White Lantern, a powerful entity representing the entire emotional spectrum.
Initially a struggling freelance artist, Kyle was chosen by the last Guardian of the Universe, Ganthet, to wield the last Green Lantern ring after the destruction of the Green Lantern Corps. His inexperience initially made him a target, but he quickly learned to master his abilities.
During the "Blackest Night" storyline, Kyle's deep understanding of the emotional spectrum and his ability to channel different emotions led to him becoming a White Lantern. As a White Lantern, he gained access to immense power capable of life creation and restoration. He joined the Lantern Corps to assist in the fight against the black lanterns and the anti-monitor.
Though the White Lantern ring has left him on multiple occasions, Kyle's connection to the emotional spectrum remains a core aspect of his character and has seen him wield other coloured rings.
